Calendar

The calendar of Elendar has been adopted by the entire land... all regions. The language of the calendar is drawn from the most ancient languages, similar to elven, and to the language of magic.

The calendar consists of 4 quarters, each named after the week long festival which begins that quarter. There are three months, of 4 weeks each, in each quarter.

This is a world wherein magic is pervasive and important. The people of the land pay close attention to what time of year it is, knowing that the gods gave them these seasons for a reason.

Urmaler Urta Mal

Sevenday Umaler

This is the end of the old year and birth of the new. The name translates to "life birth of the dead time". During the winter season very little is conceived, although there are many births, from the children conceived during the season of fertility.

Befyr Maler Mal

Sevenday Befirmaler

This is the time of fertility. Of conception. Of the growth of new living things. During this spring season, many children are conceived. It is well known that if a couple does not wish to conceive, then coupling during this quarter is only tempting the gods to make a choice for them -- quite often couples will abstain entirely.

The Sevenday is celebrated by feasting, to celebrate the coming plentiful seasons. It is also celebrated by gatherings designed to encourage romance. After all, it is a time of fertility, and the people want the gods to look favorably upon them.

Mirya Fratamal

Mirya's Night

The season in which magic is highest, when the mortal world is closest to Fey. During the festival that begins this season, magic is showcased, with performances and auctions. They Fey play tricks on mortals then, and those mortals are wary of being caught, yet certain Mirya will protect them from Her children.

Maler Mal Befyr Urta

Sevenday Maler

This is more commonly known as the time of birth before the time of death. When the harvest is reaped before the year begins to die in preparation for the coming of the new year. Plants give birth to their fruits only to die, and most animals (save the humans) give birth to the young conceived during the second season.
