Welcome to Mask of the Innocent, a Dark Supers game.
You are cordially invited to join a Dark Supers game running monthly. Each month we will confirm the next month’s date and select the date for the following month. If, after reading this invitation and the website, you do wish to play, please respond by Friday August 16, 2002, to d-singer@hall-of-mirrors.com with three possible weekend dates (Saturday or Sunday) that you would be available to play within the next 4-5 weeks. Once I have a complete cast list, I will be sending out the chosen date (obviously, I’d like to get everyone there the first session) and we will be getting ready to play.
The game will be run using the Superworld system. Yes, that includes dice. For those who are unfamiliar with the system it is the Chaosium Supers system, which means it is a combination of dice & points for character creation, has a relatively realistic skills advancement system (check hunting will not be tolerated), and is one of those rare Supers systems where bullets can be dangerous. This is Batman, not Superman, which is exactly what I am looking for.
Descriptions of the world, known NPCs, and the history are in the process of being made available on the Mask of the Innocent website at http://www.hall-of-mirrors.com/mask. More will become available almost daily at this point, including the details of what I would like for character creation before the first session.
The enclosed invitation marks the beginning of the first scenario. It arrives to your character in a cream-colored envelope, and written on matching paper of a high quality stock. The invitation is hand-lettered with a pen & ink. There is no return address listed, and the postmark is so smudged as to be indeterminate.
The invitation is supplied now because I would like each character to have a reason why they would respond to such an invitation. There are cases where your character might not receive an invitation, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Your character may be drawn from any walk of life, any age.
Game play will take place at Josh & Liz’s house in Clifton Park for the first session. After that we will choose location at the time of choosing the session. Their house is laid out well for gaming, so at this point I intend to play there for the first few sessions. However, Clifton Park may be out of the way for some players, so we can also shift around to allow everyone to have a chance for the easy commute. Since my house often looks like a tornado hit it (well, two small tornados known as my children), I think we’ll avoid it for now. Maybe when the construction’s done and the house is rearranged it’ll become a little more hospitable.
Again, please remember to respond by Friday, August 16, 2002 to d-singer@hall-of-mirrors.com. When you respond, please let me know what email address you would like to use for your primary contact information. Also, please let me know if you have any difficulties with that email address being sent to the rest of the group. I intend to use email and the web as our primary out-of-session communication devices. Everyone will be given a userid and a login to the MoveableType web content management tool on my site, and the ability to update sections of the Mask of the Innocent website. I hope that everyone will contribute with character information, game logs, and other ways to add color and creativity to the game world. If I can get the security figured out, I may also eventually keep character sheets online so that we can be assured that I don’t lose them.
Now go read, think, and don’t forget to follow all the instructions on the website about getting to know my thought process. And I’ll hear from you by Friday.
