The session began when most characters received the invitation, approximately 3 weeks prior to the invitation date of August 11th. The session concluded at 1am Thursday, August 14th.
Most characters received their invitations normally. The invitation was in a cream-colored envelope, and written on matching paper of a high quality stock. The invitation was hand-lettered with a pen & ink. There was no return address listed, and the postmark was so smudged as to be indeterminate.
Some investigation into the invitation and dates showed that the week coincided with the Democratic National Convention. Some characters also learned that the room was reserved by Jamie Sullivan, the 17 year old intern for Maximillian Weyland, using her brand new corporate Amex.
Adira Jones traveled from Malden, Massachusetts.
Bishop Lord Alfred came from Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Khloe Abigail Berne arrived from Pembroke, Maine, hoping to use this as her chance to move permanently to NYC and sell her home in Maine.
Chris Knight's wife convinced him to take the vacation and both his wife (Lisa) and daughter (Jordan) joined him on the trip.
James Sterling was flown in from the Antartic, lucky enough to hop onto a flight rescuing a technician with testicular cancer.
John Smith arrived early, investigating and simply watching.
"Cypher" was approached by a young blond woman, dressed for business, who held up the invitation for it to read, one day prior to the gathering.
Eric Ashcroft lives in NYC and planned to only check out his room and then stay at home, but since the room was so nice, decided to spend a bit more time in the hotel.
Cassandra Lyndon arrived from her summer at UCLA, and never bothered to change her schedule from West Coast time.
When the various members checked in, they were given a debit smart card which could be used anywhere in the city. Later investigation showed that they had a starting limit of $2,000 and the card had standing instructions to send for a recharge whenever it fell below a certain amount. They also received tickets to a Yankees game Monday evening, a Rush concert at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, and the latest, greatest hot Broadway show for Wednesday night.
They noticed each other somewhat upon checkin, all having suites on the 15th floor.
The grouping was more noticaable at the baseball game, when they filled 8 of the twelve seats in the box (Chris was missing, he & his family instead sitting with George Steinbrenner for the game). Some conversations began, as Cass flirted outrageously with Eric, and John attempted to strike up conversation with "Cypher" (appearing as a 16 year old nervous girl). After the game, Cass invited Eric to go dancing, but Eric declined as he had to be on duty as a firefighter the next day. "Cypher" instead went with her, and the two spoke a little... Cass far more than "Cypher". The foursome of Bishop, James, Adira, and Khloe went out for dinner, and enjoyed dinner and conversation.
The next night at the Rush concert found Chris again joining the group, although others (such as Eric) were missing instead. Again there was more conversation, and more curiousity as they all realized that they had been similarly brought to NYC and were there for some yet to be determined purpose.
On Wednesday, only 6 of the 9 made it to the show. Bishop was uninterested in Broadway and elected to remain in the room instead. James was spending time with old secret service friends. Eric was working at the firehouse. But the others enjoyed the show. They could clearly see the box seats across the way where secret service men protected the First Husband (Brian Abrams, CEO of Fibrodyne Development).
Shortly after the intermission, as the musical number crescendoed, a commotion broke out in the VIP box across the way. The visible secret service men dove back into the box, and a struggle of some kind ensued. Back where they were relaxing off-duty, the secret service men received notification, and left James behind as they raced to the theatre.
Chris pulled the fire alarm in order to empty the theatre of civilians. Then he used his glasses to view the struggle from afar, noting that there were a dozen or so secret service men, and 6 men who appeared to be similarly dressed, but not exactly, involved in the scuffle.
Cass disappeared from the box, only to reappear about ten feet away from the balcony edge, over the orchestra. She tucked and rolled as she fell, landing precariously balanced on the backs of two chairs. She apologized and then leapt off, before teleporting back up again to the edge of the balcony.
"Cypher", Khloe, Adira, and John all left their seats, heading back into the corridor to move quickly towards the VIP box. John stopped near the lineof secret service man and concentrated, trying to sort out the thoughts swirling around. He managed to focus on someone treating an injured man, and determined that while he was seriously injured, it wasn't mortal.
"Cypher" walked through the line of secret service men, ignoring that they tried to grab at her (as a society woman) and fell all over themselves doing it. But when she got to the middle there was so much going on that being unable to affect it, she couldn't really figure much more out.
With the alarm going off, Eric soon found himself at the theatre. The attendees were filing out, in a haphazard disorganized manner. The firemen quickly determined that it was a false alarm, and Eric moved up to the balcony to find Chris standing next to the alarm that had been pulled. Chris caught Eric up to date, and Eric decided to move to backstage to make sure all the actors were allright.
Chris returned his attention to the scuffle, again seeking the six intruders. And noticed that there were only five that he could find. He searched backstage, then outside, but failed to find the missing intruder. He phoned a private number for the President, and left a message for her that Brian had been attacked but was alright, but that one attacker had escaped. The
Once things were finally sorted out, "Cypher", John, Adira, Cass, and Khloe regrouped outside the theatre. They talked about what they did, and Cass pointed out her teleporation by showing off, and Adira then punched through a wall just as Eric joined them. He was suitably impressed. Khloe showed off her power by siphoning a sip of coffee from Cass. The sip packed quite a punch, for both involved, and Khloe was jumpy while Cass was annoyed.
The group went to get coffee and desserts and then headed back to Eric's hotel room. They collected Chris from his room, and then later James joined them as well for discussions.
They did quite a bit of research, searching for more information about their hotel rooms, and then about Jamie Sullivan. They learned that the young intern had a new American Express card, charged back to an unnamed branch of the government, which held all ten suites on the 15th floor (one remained empty). However, she didn't have another room charged to that card in the hotel. Still, her name appeared on a room of her own, charged to a card owned by Maximillian Weyland -- her guardian and employer.
They continued research into her history, finding out when she was born, her parents' names, and when she came to Washington DC, and made note of all the details.
In the meantime, once they had the room identified, "Cypher" offered to go take a look at the room, which it did. It saw a beat up old teddy bear on the bed, and business like clothing, and not much else since it couldn't touch anything to go through it. Later it was decided that John would stand guard a floor below and watch, and Cass (using Chris's x-ray glasses to see through the floor) would teleport up and into the room to go through things. She showed "Cypher" the pages of the planner she found, as she flipped through it. Then the group rejoined those downstairs again.
The group made plans for the next day. James figured that his secret service friends would know how Brian Abrams was faring, and whether there were any suspicions about what exactly had happened. John suggested that he might be able to hear what they were really thinking, especially if James got them involved in conversation so that the thoughts would percolate to the top. He could hide nearby and listen. And Cass offered to come along, in case John needed a quick getaway.
The others agreed that they needed to talk to Bishop the next day. After all, the only other people on the floor besides those in the room were Bishop, and Chris's wife and daughter. So it was more than possible that he, too, had abilities they didn't know about yet.
"Cypher", on the other hand, remained curious about Jamie Sullivan, and since it had spoken to her before, when she delivered the invitation, "Cypher" decided to head upstairs and remain in Jamie's room, waiting for her to come home.
