Eric Edelman was born on December 14, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio. He began work in local politics directly out of college, working on a local politician's campaign. He became instrumental in town politics, then moved up to state politics.

Eric married in 1973 to his high school sweetheart, MaryJane Weiss. The two have had a total of five children (Jeffrey, b. 1975; Sarah, b. 1978; Deborah, b. 1979; Jason, b. 1983; and Joshua, b. 1987).

The vice president has a slender build, and stands just shorter than the average man. With his greying hair, and glasses, one wouldn't expect a commanding presence. Yet he speaks with intelligence and creativity, and has a surprising charisma. His knowledge of modern technology and politics, and his ability to smooth tempers made him an obvious choice of running mate for Jayne Abrams.
