After the fact

And now that the contest has been over for four days, I finally complete the actual novel. I made the 50k words on time, but the novel wasn't done yet. I completed that today. Its done, but its far from being actually *done* of course.

I'm letting Audrey finish reading it. And Kevin (my husband) can read it. In general, though, its going to go get put in a drawer for a couple of months until I'm ready to face it again. In the meantime, there are a few things I can fill in, like building the language of Fae, and some research into Celtic legends & mythology.

But I just wanted to share that not only am I done with NaNo, I'm done with the book. Its exciting. *smiles*

Me too!

I was the last of this foursome across the finish line, but I made it. The 50,000 (well, 50,606) mark was met and verified, although I still have 2 1/2 chapters to go before the story is over. I'd like to finish it up this weekend, but as we have guests, I doubt that'll happen.

So I wrote 50,000 words, but I haven't yet finished a novel. *grins* Soon, soon!

Crossing the finish line

Too close to sleep, I cleared the 50k mark somewhere around 1:30 AM. One minute I still had 200 words to go the next I was at 50,054. I just sat there and stared at the number for a minute. For a while I didn't think I was going to make it. I was thousands words behind and some days I was just barely making the minimums, never mind trying to make up lost ground. But then I hit the 49k mark and realized, in a bit of a daze, that I was really going to do it. 50,000 words in 30 days... except I did it in 25.

The last six days were the crunch. 6000 words over the course of the weekend, 2000 a day during the week, and another 4000 Thanksgiving day.

I think I've developed carpal tunnel in my left wrist, but Halleluiah! I DID IT!!

Not that the story is done, of course, but I'll stick to one goal at a time. :)

DONE

Well'p, I made it. The numbers look really good until you realize I actually started this yesterday at about ten in the evening, but I had already submitted my "numbers" for the 28th. Still isn't finished, but it's close. I've got one more big bang-up scene due, the final showdown with the Russian Mafia, but before I can do it I really have to figure out what it is the Kashandra is supposed to do that no one else can do. Right now, she's just this gal Pup-pup likes and I have to figure out why.

Best line(s) tonight
Delta replying to Kash's "where am I" after waking up and puking

D "Inu said you might (puke) when you woke up. I’m glad to see you’re a veteran with hangovers, you managed to nail the bucket on the first try.”

K “What if I’d turned the other way?”

D “I got two buckets.”

Best line of all; I never did really top this one for just being my favorite:
His voice was harsh, strained like a frog with constipation trying to push one out.

So, here's the last excerpt probably. I'm not even going to think about doing anything more with this for at least a week. I do have something resembling a regular job to do and there are a lot of notes back home I would need to really turn this into the story I want it to be. The real truth behind the murdered pool table, and some more personal stuff on Kashandra's love life and the triangle between Kenneth, her and Jerry. Though it was supposed to be Bruce, but he seemed to have written himself out of the story pretty early on. That'll change next draft, either Bruce will stick around or Kenneth gets an earlier intro.

Inching Towards the Finish Line

Still haven't made it, but then, its late, and I actually have to work tomorrow. As long as I can scrape together an hour to myself tomorrow, I'll be able to get there. Won't finish the book, but I've only got 900 words to go to make it to the finish line.

I've written 49,100 words. I honestly wasn't sure I could make it when I started this. Thanks, Chris.

There are three chapters left. Two of the final chapters will be between 1,000 and 2,000 words. The middle one of the three will likely be between 4,000 and 6,000 words. After all, its the climax of the story. I suspect the final total on the novel, before editing and adding in the one example fairy tale I left out for time's sake, will be around 55,000 to 60,000 words. Not bad for a YA novel.

So tomorrow night I'll submit for verification. Wow. I can't wait!!!

Finally in the Positive!

For the first time, I'm ahead in numbers instead of behind. I know that the day isn't even half over yet, for most of ya'll it hasn't even begun yet, but I've got a lot to do this evening and now that morning watch is over I'm going to try and get a bit of sleep. Last night I suddenly had another of those flashes that ends up with Kash getting attacked by something weird. Pup-pup saves her again, with some help from Inu.

Best line(s) tonight
His flesh began to sizzle and blister, as if the napalm were falling again from the sky and engulfing him. Only there were no flames, only the searing blackened skin, peeling from his face, his torso. His clothing flashed away like paper as the burn slid down his body. Her left arm and ribcage ached in sympathy as she remembered the pain that just a negligent splatter of the stuff had caused her. Pains not half so great as the remembered wound of watching her love burn.

The extension is the ghost scene. Doesn't need no e'splaining.

I can taste it

I passed 48k tonight... I have approximately 2,000 words left to go. A part of me wants to just tuck in and keep on going tonight, but I have to get up early in the morning to put the turkey on before 9am. Not to mention cleaning the mud room, and getting everything else set up and ready to go for a 1pm dinner.

Only 2,000 words. Its so close I can taste it, and oh gods, it tastes good. I just wanna be able to finish tasting it. *smiles*
