Elendar was first created as a backdrop for the fiction writing of Deb Atwood. Faerling was the first of these stories, and introduced the gods and goddesses, and the concept of a Faerling, a half-Fey, half human creature, one of Mirya's children. The story was posted in episodes to the ADND-L mailing list, and was never completed.

Many years later, when Deb sought to run a fantasy game, she chose Elendar as the world in which to place Artifacts of Winter. The game was created without dice, and ran for over a year. She taped every session, and posted game writeups to the ADND-L list as she transcribed the tapes. Unfortunately, transcribing tapes takes a very long time and she never completed the task. The drawer full of tapes is quite daunting!
