Elendar was created in the late 1980's as the world for the novel Faerling. While the novel was never completed, the world remained a work in progress.

It was originally built over AD&D, as the novel was being posted as "Fluff" to the ADND-L mailing list. But as the years went on, the system slowly became diceless, and grew and changed. But some parts of the flavor of AD&D remained.

A Face-To-Face campaign was run in this world a few years back. Artifacts of Winter was an avatar game in which 11 people from our world crossed over into Elendar. The game was intended to be played for a single semester, in a few marathon sessions, and metamorphed into a two year long campaign.

Elendar is a high magic world. The gods are interfering, and magic is relatively plentiful. However, it is also at times a grim and realistic world. Women there, when not called to a guild or a priesthood, are often thought of as posessions, first of their father, then of their husband. Even when called, it is not always an easy place for a woman to be alone.

There are four primary gods in Elendar:

  • Mirya -- Goddess of Mystery and Magic
  • Aylia -- Goddess of Healing and Pain
  • Sim -- God of War and Knowledge
  • Jejune -- God of Chaos and Progress
