Character Creation

An incomplete web page... (7/25/99)

This is a freestyle game. This means there is no right or wrong way to create a character. Background ... who you are ... is as important as what you can do. There is no point basis that you must be under. There are mechanics, of a sort, but it is all very flexible.

Character creation has three parts -- your background, your race, and your guild.

Character Background

Your background should be worked out with the GM. Read the information on the world of Elendar in order to decide where you would like to live, and the type of life you would like to have. This will also be influenced by race. But work closely with the GM. She likes to be able to work on the background with you so that she is comfortable with it, and can provide hooks for you as the game begins.

Character Race

There are several races available in the world of Elendar. All were created by Mirya, the goddess of Mystery and Magic. She first created the Fey, who were most like her, magical creatures. She then created the Elves, who walk the line between magic and mortality. And finally she created the magicless creatures, the humans. Some receive Her gifts in the various forms of magics, and go to the guilds to use those talents. But the human race as a whole is mortal, and without innate magic. And finally there are the magical creatures... people who are perhaps were-creatures, or magical in some strange way or form.

And there are always the Faerlings (half Fey) and Elflings (half elven). The Faerling are usually more ostracized than those of half elven blood. The Fey will not recognize a Faerling, and the mortals tend to fear those of Fey blood, fearing their capricious nature.

Character Guilds

For guilds, there are both guilds and priesthoods. A person is called to their guild, and someone who tries to become a member of a guild which is not their calling will fail. For example, someone destined to be a Trickster will fail at Academy Magic. It is innate, yet a skill as well.

The Priesthoods

There are four primary gods, and several lesser gods. Each has its own priesthood with different skills and natural abilities which match their god's specialty. Gods are not, themselves, evil or good. Their followers choose their own paths. The gods only care that their faith be put forward.
